Pilates

Pilates is a form of low impact conditioning exercise that helps to improve strength, mobility, balance, posture and co-ordination. Physiotherapists are healthcare professionals and experts in understanding how the body moves and how it responds to pain and injury. Physio led Pilates is therefore ideal if you are recovering from an operation or injury or have health conditions which limit your ability to join other exercise classes.

We offer you the following Pilates options all led by one of our Pilates trained Chartered and HCPC registered Physiotherapists:

  • 60 minutes of 1:1 personal instruction with a physiotherapist at our clinic. These sessions are ideal if you prefer individual attention or are unable to make a class.
  • 60 minutes of 1:1 personal instruction with a physiotherapist in your own home. These sessions are ideal if you prefer individual attention and enjoy exercising in the comfort of your own home.
  • Introduction to Pilates Workshop. This small group workshop should be your first port of call if you have never done Physio led Pilates before. It is delivered as a 60-minute stand- alone class with the aim of teaching you the concepts of breathing, placement and core muscle contraction used in Pilates.

    Anyone wishing to join our beginners/improvers Physio led Pilates classes should complete either this workshop or attend for a 1:1 introduction appointment with one of our physiotherapists who teach Pilates.

    Workshops take place on Friday afternoons 1-2pm at both Applemore & Totton health & Leisure, with a maximum of 4 people in each group.

  • Physio led Pilates Classes. We offer daytime and evening classes for beginners, improvers and intermediates. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 10 people per class, ensuring you receive enough close attention from the class instructor.
    You will achieve greater benefit from Pilates if you attend regularly, so we offer a discounted option to buy 6 classes for the price of 5 when booked in advance, and recommend you aim to attend one class per week. You can also booked on a pay per class basis. Prices can be found in the Prices section of our website.

    If you have never done physio led Pilates before, we do require you to complete an Introduction to Pilates session with one of our Pilates trained physiotherapists before joining the classes. This is to ensure you have grasped the concepts of breathing, placement and core muscle contraction used in Pilates, which ensures you will gain much more from the classes.

    The Introduction to Pilates session can be booked either as a 1:1 appointment in our clinic or at home, or by attending a one-off Introduction to Pilates Workshop.
